About People's Pixels
A viral experiment in collective ownership of the internet.
People's Pixels is a 1,000 × 1,000 grid — exactly one million squares — that anyone in the world can claim, color, and customize. Each square costs one dollar. Once you own it, it's yours forever.
This is a love letter to the early internet: the Million Dollar Homepage, the GeoCities collages, the personal homepages and webrings. A place where people drew their thing, said their piece, and signed their name.
We think the modern internet has lost some of that energy. People's Pixels is a tiny attempt to bring it back — a permanent, collaborative canvas that anyone can be part of.
The rules
- Each pixel costs $1. Pay once, own forever.
- A pixel cannot be purchased twice.
- Customize with a color, name, message, and link.
- Inappropriate content can be reported and hidden, but ownership is permanent.
